
The entrepreneur is typically adept at imagining what could be
and developing visions of a bright and successful future.
However, these visions must be tempered with an honest
appraisal of the resources and capabilities of the organization and
the needs, expectations and resources of the customer.
A Strategic Plan should be a stretch for accomplishment but
not unattainable.
Failing to recognize weaknesses can seriously impact the
organization’s ability to carry out its mission and reach its
vision. This pitfall is
especially noticeable in organizations that have experienced recent
success.
For
over a 1000 years, Roman conquerors rode in a triumphal chariot in a
tumultuous parade. A soldier or slave stood behind the
conqueror holding a golden crown and whispering in his ear a warning
that all glory is fleeting and that many battles remain to be
fought.
